City EC2 EC4

The financial district; crazy on weekdays, closed at weekends (including some of the pubs). Nearby areas: Aldgate, Clerkenwell & Farringdon, Kings Cross & Holborn.

Recommended pubs

  • Flying Horse 52 Wilson Street
    EC2A 2ER

Entrance to the upstairs bar is via an unmarked door on the right of the main entrance. Inside are two boards, in good nick on last visit. The room feels a little wonky, but this is a decent place to throw some darts, or for a friendly competition.

  • Hoop and Grapes 80 Farringdon Street
    EC4A 4BL

Extremely accommodating, although needs to be as the two boards are two floors up in a section of the pub that is often roped off. It's a nice pub, however, particularly suitable for an event, and staff are willing to use the dumb waiter as a beer lift to save trips up and down the stairs. The two boards are peculiarly close together, although I'm told are moved for events.

  • Porters Lodge 17 Arthur Street
    EC4R 9BR

Darting heaven just near the Monument, with 7 (count them) boards in total. Genial landlord, an in-house individual league, and teams in four different leagues give credence to the claim that this is the mecca of central London darts.

  • Other pubs

  • Green Man 1 Poultry
    EC2R 8EJ

Cavernous underground Wetherspoon pub with only a small area on ground level, and a board near the toilets which appears barely, if ever used. Has everything you would expect from a Wetherspoons.

  • Sea Horse 64 Queen Victoria Street
    EC4N 4SJ

Tiny pub where you wouldn't expect to find a board, but there's a perfectly reasonable oche to the right of the bar. The board is bookable, has been in use each time I've visited, and I've never won any form of darts there.
