Angel N1
Not the darting delight of a few years' ago, but it's a nice enough area to hang out. Nearby areas: Kings Cross & Holborn; Old Street & Hoxton; Clerkenwell & Farringdon.Recommended pubs
-
Lord Wolesely 55 White Lion Street
N1 9PPThe board in the front bar may need a little shove of the sofa to fully access, and the one in the back room may be hidden away and blocked by chairs at lunchtimes, but in the evening this is a darter’s delight – although watch out for the several teams that play there. The landlord, Declan, will go out of his way to host a darts evening. Highly recommended, if occasionally a little earthy, and featured often in Murder on the Darts Board.
-
Mucky Pub 39 Queen’s Head Street
N1 8NQCosy feel of a pub where darts is, apparently, becoming increasingly popular (partly because pool is so expensive). Hidden in the back streets, a pleasant surprise.
-
Duchess of Kent 72 Prebend Street
N1 8PRA little way up the New North Road, and don't allow the walk to heighten your expectations - but we received a friendly welcome here, even if the place has seen better days.
-
Kings Head 59 Essex Road
N1 2SFThey currently only run a women’s team, and the oche is covered by furniture the rest of the time. Probably able to reserve it, however, and it’s a pleasant enough place inside.
-
Prince of Wales 1a Sudeley Street
N1 8HPThe sign outside the door claims it has a 'Friendly, inviting, atmosphere' but this must be one of the worst pubs ni London. Ushered away from the bar containing the board by particularly aggressive locals, the drunken landlord reported on visit that he previously ran a dart team, but that it made the pub too busy. D'oh.
