I live, work and play in London, mixing two careers, both contentedly unsuccessful. Occasionally I try to work out whether the satisfaction of doing something valuable (such as working in the charity sector) outweighs the futility of talking about darts and other sports. Occasionally I decorate.

Some stuff I like: pubs, especially those with dart boards; reading books that I didn't expect to enjoy because they appeared too literary but which turn out to be surprisingly accessible and strangely inspiring, such as anything by Isabel Allende; people who carry prams or heavy luggage up and down stairs for strangers without making any fuss about it; being curmudgeonly; The Exiles; The The; The Thick of It; the London Underground; eggs and cheese, together or alone; Tommy Cooper: 'one in four..'; knowing bus routes; shoe shopping; Emma & Molly; poker; friendly cabbies; civil liberty; frankfurters; the annual golf weekend; waking up refreshed; the England Writer's Football team; Fridays; The Guardian's Media Talk podcast with Matt Wells; lists.

Some stuff I don’t like: chemists; radio phone-ins; not being able to sleep; playing bad darts; Mark Kermode's holidays; any shopping (other than shoe); people with limited awareness of acceptable social behaviour; pairing socks; waiting to pay the bill; being fat; poor Guinness; Lambeth registry office; people who moan about life but make  no effort to improve it; enforced community; missing the flush draw; Health & Safety legislation being used as an excuse to stop people doing things; celebrities doing charity; sweetcorn; the price of Sensodyne; the fact that American Hots are shrinking.
